Scottish Screen is a Scottish Executive funded organisation, which allocates National Lottery funds to develop feature scripts, and offers investment to help move them into production. Through investment in shorts, low budget and medium budget features, and partnering film schemes such as The Singles, Scottish Screen provides wide opportunities for filmmakers.
Scottish Screen offers support, advice and finance towards the development of feature films of any genre intended for theatrical release. Awards under Script Development and Project Development can be for fiction, documentary or animation projects but can only be made to production companies.
In addition to funding development of screenplays, Scottish Screen can also provide feedback on scripts where there is evidence that the writer has the potential to develop the script and/or their writing ability.
Feedback on feature length scripts is available to:
- Scottish based production companies
- Scottish based writers
- Production companies outside Scotland working with writers based in Scotland.
This small fund is intended to encourage feature film projects at the early stages of development, typically where a project is insufficiently developed to be eligible for an award under Lottery-funded Script Development Scheme. It is open to both companies and individuals. The maximum award is £5,000 and takes the form of a loan repayable if the project goes into production.
