frequently asked questions
What does Scottish Borders Film Focus do?
We are funded by the local authority and enterprise agency to promote the area's locations for use in films, TV, music videos, corporates, photo shoots and commercials. We offer advice on setting up productions in the region and provide an extensive database of locations, facilities and crew.
How much do you charge?
Our service is FREE.
Do I need a permit to film in the
Borders?
You don't need a permit to film in the Scottish Borders. However, it is in your interest to let us know where and when you are filming as we can provide you with knowledge of the area and help to ensure that your shoot goes smoothly. You are also required to observe basic rules of health and safety and show courtesy to members of the public and local businesses. If you are filming on private property you will need the owner's permission. Check out PERMITS for further information.
Can you set up my shoot for me?
No, but we will provide you with essential professional contacts, facilitate the necessary meetings, and advise you on procedures that will help save you time, money and cut through red-tape.
Can you provide any production or development finance?
Visit our FUNDING & INCENTIVES section to find out more.
I can't find the sort of location I need. Can you help?
Yes. We would love to help. Visit our LOCATION ENQUIRY section which explains what your options are.
I am looking for a job in production. Can you help?
We do not employ production staff. However, as we are often asked by producers for help in recruiting, we keep a file of CVs as well as a database of crew. If you would like to register with us go to ADD YOUR SERVICES for further details.
How do I register my property with
you?
Go to YOUR PROPERTY AS A LOCATION for further information. If your property is outside the Scottish Borders visit the British Film Commission
website to find the film office that covers your area.
Are there other film offices in Scotland and the rest of the UK?
Yes, most of the UK regions have a film office and work with the British Film Commission
which is charged by the British Government to promote the UK as a place to make films. If you aren't sure which film office you want call us on +44 (0)131 622 7337 and we will help.
Can you tell me what is being filmed in the Scottish Borders now?
Generally the productions we deal with like their plans to be kept confidential, so we cannot provide this information. However, you may wish to check out FILMED HERE to find out more about past productions.
Do you have information about holiday accommodation or conference facilities?
This can be found by visiting either the Scottish
Borders Tourist Board or the Scottish Tourist Board websites.
